Rachel, hard at work on a sustainability campaign for Aston Martin, needed a headline that communicated the company’s environmental commitment without dulling its reputation for elegance and speed.
That was when A.J. suggested a play on one of his favourite colours, British racing green. The client loved it, and the “Racing Green” campaign went on to win two industry awards, as well as being shortlisted for the Reuters Responsible Business Awards.
That led to an epiphany. It was not the first time they had helped each other communicate better. A.J. recalled how Rachel had helped him hone his speaking skills. Rachel remembered how A.J. had helped her edit her first book. As good as they were individually, they were even better as a team.
Megaphone & Quill was born.

Rachel is an expert at helping leaders find their voice.
At the age of nine, Rachel Madan recited a Mark Twain speech from memory to her elementary school class in Brooklyn, New York. That day, she discovered an unusual passion: Public speaking. Ever since, she has been working to help others overcome their fear and polish their presentation skills.
Throughout a 25-year career in sustainability communications, Rachel has built a reputation for transforming even the most technical concepts into inspiring messages. She has advised a wide variety of organisations, shaping communications for the World Bank Group, the Tate art galleries, and global brands including Trustpilot, Sage, and Aston Martin. Along the way, she has built two businesses, earning awards from the likes of Reuters and PR News.
Clients describe her as a phenomenal sounding board with sharp insight, contagious energy, and a gift for asking the right questions at the right time. Whether she’s coaching introverted founders or helping global teams land a message, Rachel helps leaders find their voice and use it to drive change.
A.J. helps leaders tell stories that unlock big ideas.
His first paid gig was as a teenage television presenter for Channel 4 Schools. By interviewing and profiling everyone from disability rights advocates to aspiring politicians, he discovered a talent for showcasing human stories that unlock big ideas.
This early experience informed a theme of his career: Helping leaders express themselves. After a stint as a barrister, A.J. became a political speechwriter, first for a senior member of the House of Lords, then the British ambassador to the United States, and finally for a senior member of the U.S. Congress.
Since starting his own ghostwriting business in 2015, he has written books, speeches, and op-eds for leaders in fields ranging from counterterrorism to education technology. Among other venues, A.J.’s words have been printed in the Wall Street Journal, published by Hachette, delivered at the United Nations, and achieved New York Times bestseller status.
A.J.’s clients value his ability to capture their authentic voice, his mastery of the written word, and his collaborative ethos. They marvel at his ability to turn their mess of memories and documents into a compelling narrative.
